Crime Watch: Death of Ronnie Cantrell

The case of a man shot and killed 14 years ago in Elkhart remains unsolved.
Ronnie Cantrell, 26, was killed on December 12, 1998 outside of the VFW on 6th St. in Elkhart, around 2:30 a.m.
Lt. Cindy Kilgore from Crime Stoppers joined us Thursday morning to share details about this cold case.
"When they [police] got there they found a gunshot victim who'd sustained non-life threatening injuries but then they were told that another victim who had been rushed to the hospital," Kilgore said.
Cantrell was sitting inside an SUV parked outside the SUV and the other person who was shot was standing outside of the vehicle. Cantrell was shot through the eye. He died in the hospital a short time later.
Cantrell had 2 children, ages 5 and 7 at the time. He would have turned 40 last month.
