8th Annual Marine Mud Run has new location

The 8th annual Marine Corps League sponsored Mud Run is taking place Saturday, September 15, at it's new permanent home!

The Armed Forces Reserve Center announced in February it will be expanding in the area the course has been held in the past, so the Marines were faced with a new challenge, to find a new home, in a short amount of time. Organizer and retired marine, First Sergeant Sam Alameda says the community was gracious enough to come forward with ideas, and he's been putting in long hours on his off time preparing ever since.

Marian High School is the new home for the course, and they say it will be permanent. They have an extra field located just a block from the school on Dragoon Road. First Sergeant Alameda says the space is perfect to loop around the challenging course with plenty of room for obstacles.

The Marines are bringing in materials from the previous course, but are also bringing a few new challegnes, including monkey bars, a vertical wall and a double bar. Area businesses like Mishawaka Utilities and the fire department donated the extra materials necessary for the new course.

The Mud Run takes place this Saturday at 9 AM, and registration extends all the way up to 8:15 on the day of the event. There will be a safety session at 8:30 to prepare those taking on the challenge.

Alameda and the marines admit the course is challenging, but say it's worth it to support Michiana with the Toys for Tots program, and to test your abilities and compete like a marine. This is considered a "fun course" so whether you're walking, jogging or sprinting, you're bound to get dirty and you'll feel great about doing it.
