Dozens of Michiana breast cancer survivors were honored Wednesday during a special luncheon at Amish Acres in Nappanee.
It is the first such event for the northern Indiana affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Survivors say aside from the chance to meet women who have had their same experiences, the luncheon is also serves to get the word out.
"There are so many women I know that have never had a mammogram. They're just afraid to and they think they're too young. You know my cancer happened when I was 40 which is the minimum recommended age to get an annual mammogram," said Cancer survivor Joanne Klopfenstein.
Each woman was also able to bring a guest who helped them through their battle with cancer.
