An area supermarket is stepping up to help the local chapter of the Susan G. Koman foundation.
Kroger supermarkets presented a 20,000 dollar check for Koman's Breast Cancer Awareness program.
The morning presentation took place at the Kroger store on Western Avenue in South Bend and will benefit the northern Indiana cancer chapter.
It is all part of a two-year grant supporting the organization for 2007 and 2008.
Despite all the money raised yearly, breast cancer continues to be a disease that affects everyone.
"There are four breast cancer survivors in our HR department in our regional office and they are driving passionately the support for that event,” said John Elliot, Kroger Public Affairs.
A portion of the funds will go toward preparing for the inaugural "Race for the Cure" event in South Bend next year.
