Tricia Sloma, Maureen
McFadden, and the entire team at WNDU-TV
is proud to team up with The Women’s Task Force of St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center to support 16 Buddy Check.
Every
member of Women’s Task Force is a cancer survivor. As survivors, they
know that early detection is the key to the best outcomes. The 16 Buddy
Check is a support program to help you fight the second most common
cancer among women in the United States — breast cancer.
The first step toward the early detection of breast
cancer is
performing a self-breast examination
once a month. Routine breast self-examinations save lives every year by
detecting breast cancer in its early stage. Numerous studies have
concluded that women diagnosed with breast cancer while in its early
stage have a five-year survival rate of 97 percent.
Unfortunately,
many women have never performed a breast
self-examination. WNDU-TV, The Women’s Task Force, and 16 Buddy Check
wants to change this. On the 16th of every month, 16 Buddy Check will
remind you to do your monthly breast self-examination. And we want you
to remind a Buddy to do the same! Together, you and your 16 Buddy will
help each other. To sign up for the email service just fill out
this form and start receiving the
monthly reminders.
16 Buddy Check Online is your home for information,
questions, and other breast cancer resources. For example, check out
the
frequently asked questions for mammograms
and for
digital mammograms.
The Women’s Task Force and WNDU-TV want to help
women in Michiana take a proactive step toward the early detection of
breast cancer. Be sure to check-in for monthly updates including, news
and resources about the fight against breast cancer. It may just save
your life.
